TOWER FANS

"Tower fans" refers to a type of electric fan that is designed in a vertical tower-like shape. Tower fans are popular for their space-saving design and their ability to provide widespread airflow in a room. They typically have a tall, slim profile and come with multiple speed settings, oscillation features, and sometimes even remote controls.

Tower fans work by drawing air from the surrounding environment through an intake grill, passing it over internal blades or impellers, and then expelling it through the vents located along the height of the fan. This creates a steady flow of cool air, helping to improve air circulation and provide relief during hot weather or stuffy indoor conditions.

Tower fans are commonly used in homes, offices, and other indoor spaces to provide cooling and ventilation. They are known for their quiet operation compared to some other types of fans, making them suitable for use in bedrooms or quiet environments.

I picked up one last year that my neighbor had thrown out. When I took it apart, I found that the fuse was the problem. Replaced the fuse and it works great. I think this is terrible, making appliances with fuses inside. Not something the average person can repair. A $70. loss for a $1.00 fuse.

Rescued Fan

The other day I noticed my neighbor throwing out a vertical fan into the garbage. My air force electronics training makes me want to look at this. So I grabbed it and took it apart to see what the problem was. Usually these things need a spot of oil to unseize the motor. It wasn't the motor and the actual problem really surprised me. It was a blown fuse. The blown fuse didn't surprise me, it was the idea of having a fuse in a fan. Never seen that before. It was a small glass fuse and I couldn't find a replacement, so I used a larger glass fuse and hard wired it in. Worked like a charm and I have another fan.
