The Effect of Alcohol & Drugs

Reading "The Drifters" by James A. Michener. Excellent write-up on the effects of alcohol and drugs. On marijuana, he thought that 10% were unaffected, 10% would move on to heroin and 80% would become lethargic. In other words society would be dumbed down. Listening to the latest news, we seem to be dumb enough and getting dumber.

On CBC News today, nothing else has happened in the world. It's all gone to pot.

Last evening I was watching the evening news

      and I came to the conclusion that the name of the show should be changed to "The Side Effects Half-Hour."  I am of course referring to ads on the show. All the ads are for drugs and at the end of each ad is a list of side effects, which at some times can be more scary than the news. I noticed that after 15 minutes the show goes to one ad per news item. The scariest ad I ever saw was the one that said the cure could cause death. It would certainly cure all your problems. Makes you wonder.

Arab Democracy?

Rain today? Of course. We seem to have six days of rain and then one day to cut the grass.

Do you know what we did yesterday? We sent a lawyer to jail. Yes, we did. Not only that, it was a woman lawyer. Nothing is sacred. What she did was smuggle drugs in to her customers in prison. Now she gets to join them. She's fifty-seven and has now lost her career.

I don't know why we are sending people to fight in Libya. It's none of our business. Suppositly to help them fight for their freedom. The same thing seems to be going on in Syria. No one is sending any help there. What's the difference? Oil! No oil in Syria.
