U.S at the OLYMPICS

The American athletes seem to want to quit while they are behind rather than lose. I guess they can then say they never lost. They also never played, which puts them on the same level as the rest of us, not the heroes the media wants us to believe.

"The Wettest County in the World:" by Matt Bondurant

This is a slice of American history brought on by the depression, lack of education and alcoholism. Violence is a given. It follows the American tradition of making outlaws into folk heroes. It is a good story but I had a problem with the sequence of chapters. The numbers were in sequence but not the content. It kept jumping back and forth between the years making it hard to follow. If you like this era of history, you will enjoy the book.

U.S. Flag on the Moon

Tony Reichhardt in 2008 Smithsonian Air & Space Magazine wrote: The flag is probably gone. Buzz Aldrin saw it knocked over by the rocket blast as he and Neil Armstrong left the moon 39 summers ago. Lying there in the lunar dust, unprotected from the sun’s harsh ultraviolet rays, the flag’s red and blue would have bleached white in no time. Over the years, the nylon would have turned brittle and disintegrated. (see Finding Apollo).   He also wrote:  Dennis Lacarrubba, whose New Jersey-based company, Annin, made the flag and sold it to NASA for $5.50 in 1969, considers what might happen to an ordinary nylon flag left outside for 39 years on Earth, let alone on the moon. He thinks for a few seconds. “I can’t believe there would be anything left,” he concludes. “I gotta be honest with you. It’s gonna be ashes.”

Sunday Morning

♫ Sunday morning coming down ♫ and that's exactly what it is doing. A few inches of snow last night and a few more today.

I saw this cartoon in the paper yesterday and had to add it to my blog. This is the way most of the world picture Americans. Americans probably wouldn't like it, but it does appear to have an element of truth. A popular saying in the U.S. is, three strikes - you're out. When I think of that saying, I think of the U.S. as a whole. First strike - gun crazy, second strike - drug crazy and the third strike - may be the crazy political rhetoric. Those three together seem to be a lethal mix. Put on top of it, the reality show arrived at from a shooting, which stays as the top story for at least a week, going at it from every angle. They come up with a host of solutions which do not address the problem, and then life goes on till the next shooting.

Today's newspaper, maybe in honor of Sunday, but probably because it's a slow news week, is filled with items pertaining to religion. Two articles are about the sale of churches, which appear to be on the rise. Selling churches for a dollar or tearing them down, seems to be the road to go, with the supermarket, to be the new church on Sunday.

Another article showed three Anglican Bishops becoming Catholic priests. I don't know about pay, but it is quite a drop in prestige. In the end, your conscience has to dictate the way and it all comes out in the wash.

Migrant Workers or Welfare Beer Drinkers?

Friday morning of what promises to be a nice day, as far as weather is concerned. Yesterday I thought would be a good day to start cleaning my shed out. Put a green garbage bin outside and proceeded to fill it. So what started off in the morning as prized possessions  for repairs etc, ended the day as garbage. I'm sure that some of the items will be classified in the future as a "why did I throw that out item." Some items like four van tires, I will sell and others will go to Value Village. I'm not putting a time frame on this because some days I am more fed up with my storage area and I become the mad slasher.

A few years ago when I was coming back from California, there were a number of Mexicans on the plane. At customs they were asked if they could speak French or English. When the answer was no, they were welcomed with open arms. Me, on the other hand, having the appearance of a druglord, was roasted. Finding only Lipitor, I was greeted with a "Welcome Home." On hearing that, I realized what situation I was in. You have to know that they can't let everyone in without asking any questions. They have to ask someone. And that would be someone who will give them the right answers.  They don't want to pick the wrong guy and up with mountains of paperwork or worse. And I'll tell you something important. Don't trry and start a conversation with them. Then you are asking for trouble.

At that time I didn't learn much about the Mexicans but now I have that all cased. Migrant workers are what they were. We use migrant workers in Nova Scotia to pick strawberries. They come from Mexico and Jamica. Having these workers is part of our foreign aid program to these countries. I have to admit that's pretty smart. Giving the money to the workers rather than passing a cheque to the government. Not only that, the foreign governments pay for part of the medical expenses. So they have return airfare, housing, medical and are paid at Canadian wage levels. It sends a lot of oney back to their families.

Why do we have to resort to migrant workers? Like our American cousins, our people are too lazy to do the work. They would rather stay on welfare. One school of thought would have the welfare taken away and make them go to work. But would you really want to do that? Do you really want to send someone who spends his time sitting on his ass drinking beer out to pick strawberries? Cheaper to fly in Mexicans. Now don't get me wrong.  In some cases welfare is needed but in other cases people make a career of it.

Facebook entry for today: Once they were my brothers, now they are just called my relatives.
(Think about that one.)

The Indian Nation

Yesterday my wife was going shopping and we were finishing off a conversation. Her last sentence was, "What goes around comes around I'm taking twenty-dollars." Do you call that speed talk? They have speed dating. You know what I thought speed dating was? You take one girlfriend home at 10:00 so you can pick up the other one. Good girl first, bad girl second. Can you imagine bragging about speed dating? "Ahuh, ahuh had a date last night. We went out for drinks. Da and it was really good. By the way, Donald Trump hasn't called back about my "Spies Are Us." show. Now "Speed Dating" would make a very good half hour comedy. Different guys every week. This is work for part time actors. And there would be one big name star who drops you at the end of the show. Win, win for everyone. I could go and drink wine with Arnold at Fess Parkers Winery.

The National game of Canada is Lacrosse, invented by the Huron and Iroquois. The Iroquois have a team playing for the World Championship, or should I say, trying to play. It seems they don't have American or Canadian passports, just an Indian Nation passport. Lets face it, an Indian Nation is a nice, fuzzy, warm idea. but that's not going to fly. Once you get into the real world, reality sets in. Now back to, what goes around, comes around. The Indian Nation is not a new idea. It was the main reason for the American Revolution.

There are two reasons to start a war. One reason is what they tell the cannon fodder. The ordinary people. And then there is the real reason. The one for the elite. And it almost always greed. It was the same then as it is now. For the cannon fodder, it was taxation, representation. Fot the elite, it was expansion. The British Government had the idea to form North America into three parts. The Thirteen Colonies, Canada and the Indian Nation. ( The rest was Spanish.) The Indian Nation would be west of the Colonies, Ohio etc. This would strangle any chance of them expanding. Well, we see how that worked out.

The American Government has allowed what they call, The Iroquois Nation. They have their own passport, etc. This is just the start. Nothing but trouble coming there. What's next? With the number of Mexicans coming in, are we looking at The Spanish Nation?  Put that all down on a map and what do you see?  Well! look at that, its the Thirteen Colonies again. O.K I may be exaggerating, but what about that border?

You know? They say the big banks walked away with all that stimulus money. I don't think that would be true. I think they would drive away in big limos with Brinks trucks following them.
