PERSPECTIVE

At my age, you can look back and it all looks like a humdrum existence. That's the wrong way to look at it. Think for a minute how it would look if it was made into a movie, a two hour movie. It might look like an interesting show. For me, for instance, it could show me working on a number of occasions about ten feet from a nuclear bomb that was strapped to the bottom of an F-104 Starfighter or skiing in the Swiss Alps or walking the streets of Rome under Vatican City.

My son and I were watching a film last night showing Hitler at the Eagles Nest, just standing by the side of a short wall. My son said "Imaging if we could pop back in time to that point and gave him a little shove. Everything would be solved. But you would have to pop back right away because I don't think they would be inviting you for a beer."

Hey! I could put that in my movie as a dream I had one night.

Gunga Din

In a number of John Wayne western movies, he has three Sgt's who are always acting like fools. As I was flipping through channels today, I saw an old movie from 1939 called Gunga Din. There they were, three Sgt's acting like fools.

Sitting on the patio, I feel like Michael Corleone in his last scene.

Swear Magnet

I think my wife is a swear magnet. I'll explain. I'm watching a movie on TV and she will walk through the room. At that moment someone on TV will say the four letter word. It may be the only swear word in that movie but it will happen when she walks through that room. I'm thinking that as soon as I see her coming, I should cut the sound.

"Skipping Christmas" by John Grisham

"Skipping Christmas", a book and a movie. This is a holiday theme book, a humorous reality check of Christmas. This is a fast paced book, a light read for the holidays. I wanted a something to read over the Christmas period and this fell into my hands. It elaborates on the time spent and the expenses involved to celebrate Christmas. It is humorous, making one think of their own festivities or folly. Through all the turmoil of the holidays, it does end up with the meaning of Christmas.

"Where Eagles Dare" by Alistair MacLean

"Where Eagles Dare," a book and a movie about British commandos on a WW 2 raid into Germany. I saw the movie more than once and decided to see if the book was anywhere close. I was not disappointed. The book and movie ran along the same lines, although I found the book much more exciting. The start was slow but then it was non-stop action, intrigue and twists to the plot. What I did not like was the continuous flippant remarks by the second in command. Too much for a mission fraught with danger. For those interested in WW 2 commandos, I highly recommend this book.

A Christmas Carol

Started watching the new Scrooge TV movie, "A Christmas Carol." I lasted 20 min. It was crap.

Horatio Hornblower

Watched an old movie the other day. Horatio Hornblower. When I was young, I thought this was an actual sailor. Never read any of those books. Must rectify that.
